Greece Travel Guide
Why do people always get excited when they hear anything about Greece? Well, it touches the heart with its history, landscape and unique atmosphere and allurement. Greece and the Greek islands are one of Europe's favorite holiday's destinations and there is quite a good reason for that. Greece can take your breath away with its beautiful landscapes and beaches, picturesque ports and villages with comfortable hotels, as well as the heavy historical, archaeological and mythological heritage...
One of the most visited cities in Greece is Athens, of course. The past mixes with the present while you glance at the ancient buildings and the tourist shops. Street-names reveal their history, old churches, and emigrant neighborhoods from other regions of our country that have enriched their new neighborhoods by bringing over the characteristics of their origins. A symbol and an ornament, the Acropolis is the guardian of Athens. At the foot of its hill the ancient markets (Agora) of Kerameikos and Thession unfold their palpitating everyday life. From the peaks of the hills that surround Athens we can discern Piraeus, Greece's largest port and the third largest in Europe, with respect to size. A noisy cross-point for different commercial center it is full of life during the summer months and hospitable to its visitors, whether they are passing through on their way to the islands of the Aegean Sea or just staying.
Do not forget to visit the Greek islands. Some of the most famous - Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, Paros, Corfu and Rhodes with their beautiful beaches, restaurants, nightlife and archaeological sites have been popular for decades. Mykonos is the most famous Greek island and it got that way for good reason. It's charming, fun, beautiful, and now, renowned for sophisticated, international goings-on. The vibrant nightlife, terrific shopping, more nude and non-nude beaches per square mile than anywhere else in Greece should not be left for another vacation. Get over onto the other side of the island for an entirely different Mykonos, one that boasts a chapel for every day of the year.
The big island of Crete is like a separate nation within Greece, with a bit of everything, from the charming beach towns like Mallia, which is located practically on top of the remains of the Minoan palace; to the sophisticated, expensive little city of Agios Nikolaos, or the natural wonders of the Samaria Gorge, the "real Crete" city of Chania. And if you decide to go to Crete keep in mind that the Heraklion Archaeological Museum is world-class, and the Minoan site of Knossos is a must-see.
You want to sink deep into the atmosphere of Greece? Then do not forget to get a ticket for Corfu - the isle covered with marvelous woods of the Phaeacians, Odysseeus' last stop on his long journey home to Ithaca, is the best known of the Ionian Islands. On this cosmopolitan island, you'll be able to combine relaxation with good times and a full nightlife, for Corfu is an international tourist centre which can satisfy the demands of the most difficult visitor.
You see, there is a lot to do in Greece, so don't delay it any longer, choose a travel agency and book your holiday in Greece! The beaches and wonders of that unique country are waiting for you!
