South Africa Travel Guide

What is typical of South Africa? Well, it is easy to say that diversity is one of the key features of South Africa. The reason is that there 11 languages are recognised as official, where community leaders include rabbis and chieftains, rugby players and returned exiles, traditional healers ply their trade around the corner from stockbrokers and where housing ranges from mud huts to palatial homes with swimming pools. You see, diversity definitely exists in South Africa South Africa is a large and extraordinarily land filled with variety, which offers almost unlimited opportunities for adventure travel of all sorts--from diving and white water rafting to mountain-climbing and trekking. Tourists go annually to South Africa not only for its natural beauty, wildlife and sunshine, but for the incomparable range of experiences. Adventure travel in South Africa means safari travel, for almost all visitors and the best-known safari area in the country is Eastern Transvaal. If you are looking for something combining adrenalin, peace and tranquillity, and sheer beauty, try the treetop canopy tour in Tsitsikamma. The marvellous adrenaline of cannoning known also as kloofing in South Africa is yet another hot favourite. River trips range from mostly scenic to grade five white-water washing machines. Also up in the air, if you are seeking for a different experience, there are many opportunities for helicopter rides, balloon flights, and aerobatics, skydiving and micro light flights. Cape Town is the most beautiful, most romantic and most visited city and it is located in South Africa. It is true that only few urban centres can match its setting along the mountainous Cape Peninsula spine, which gently slides into the Atlantic Ocean. Te most famous of its sights and definitely the most striking one is Table Mountain, which is frequently shrouded by clouds and rearing up from the middle of the city. If you want to appreciate Cape Town truly then you should spend some time outdoors, as most Capetownians usually do. They go hiking, picnicking or sunbathing, or often choosing mountain bikes in preference to cars and turning adventure activities into an obsession. This may seem a little tiring but it is surely relaxing and worthy. But the city offers sedate pleasures as well, along its hundreds of paths and 150km of beaches. There are many others interesting and attractive cities to see in South Africa, such as Durban. As it is a coastal city, Durban is constantly affected by the warm sea current flowing down its shoreline. This makes the humidity levels of the area high. The coasts to the north and south of Durban enjoy beautiful beaches and warm water. The Agulhas Current travels southward down the KwaZulu-Natal shoreline, and is one of the most powerful currents in the world. Surfing is one of the main activities on the many beaches, where you will find Surf Lifesavers with numerous signs demarcating areas where swimming is safe. Angling and boating activities are also very popular. South Africa is an all year destination so when you visit depends on what you intend and prefer to do. The best time for game viewing is in early spring (August to October). The southern right whales can be seen off our coasts from June to the end of October, and the humpback whales from August to December.
